AT 75, 'YOUNG' DHARMENDRA STILL YEARNS FOR MORE

Mumbai : Bollywood legend Dharmendra, who celebrates his 75th birthday today, says that despite his age and accomplishments he is still young, yearning for more from life and trying to find out why a human being never experiences fulfilment and satisfaction.

Dharmendra, who completes a golden run on celluloid this year, said he did not view the film industry as part of his profession, but as a part of his life.
"It is my beloved and I don`t want to part with it ever," said the actor, who was last seen in "Apne" and "Life in a Metro", both released in 2007.
"It is the way of life. There is nothing like showbiz. It is because of the love, affection and good wishes of my fans that I am a young boy of 75," he added.

The actor is all set to tickle the funny bones of his fans, along with his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, in the film "Yamla Pagla Deewana", which releases next month.

Dharmendra said he was born to spread love and happiness among his fans and added that he resolved to strengthen his relationship with them further in the coming years.

Dharmendra considers himself lucky because he was bestowed with more than what he desired. "I had asked for a flat, a fiat and prayed that my posters continue to be put up across the country," he recalled.

Sunny said his father`s 75th birthday celebrations would include a "havan" at home and a gathering of family, friends and relatives during lunch.
He said that despite having a successful career, his father has been a deeply rooted man who has touched the lives of people who have come across him.
"He never showed off that he was being nice to people. He was just being himself. He has been rewarded by fans. Their love and affection cannot be bought or manipulated," the proud son said.

He said since childhood to his growing up years, despite living in a joint family, his father was always around either personally or on screen.
"I can`t see anything beyond him. My grandparents were a great influence during childhood and mother has been like an iron lady," Sunny said.

The actor said `Yamla Pagla Deewana` was a tribute to Dharmendra`s golden jubilee as an actor.

"C'est ma bien-aimée et je ne veux jamais m'en séparer" a déclaré l'acteur qui a été vu pour la dernière fois dans "Apne" et "Life in A Metro", tous deux sortis en 2007.
"C'est le mode de vie. Il n'y a rien de comparable au showbiz. C'est grâce à l'amour, à l'affection et aux bons vœux de mes fans que je suis un jeune homme de 75 ans" a-t-il ajouté.

L'acteur est fin prêt à faire rire ses fans, aux côtés de ses fils Sunny Deol et Bobby Deol, dans le film Yamla Pagla Deewana qui sort le mois prochain.

Dharmendra a déclaré qu'il était né pour répandre l'amour et le bonheur parmi ses fans et a ajouté qu'il s'était promis de renforcer ses relations avec eux dans les années à venir.

Dharmendra se considère chanceux car on lui a accordé plus que ce qu'il désirait. "J'avais demandé un appartement, une Fiat et prié pour que mes posters continuent à être affichés dans tout le pays" se rappelle-t-il.

Sunny a dit que la célébration du 75ème anniversaire de son père inclurait un "havan" à la maison et une réunion de famille, amis et proches pour le déjeuner.
Il dit qu'en dépit d'avoir une carrière réussie, son père a été un homme profondément enraciné qui a touché la vie des gens qui sont venus vers lui.
"Il n'a jamais fait étalage du fait qu'il était gentil avec les gens. Il était juste lui-même. Il a été récompensé par les fans. Leur amour et leur affection ne peuvent pas être achetés ou manipulés".

Il a déclaré que depuis l'enfance jusqu'à l'âge adulte, malgré le fait de vivre dans une famille étendue, son père était toujours là, en personne ou à l'écran.
"Je ne peux rien voir au-delà de lui. Mes grands-parents avaient une grande influence pendant l'enfance et ma mère a été comme une dame de fer" a déclaré Sunny.

Il a dit que Yamla Pagla Deewana était un hommage à Dharmendra pour son cinquantième anniversaire en tant qu'acteur.

Yamla Pagla Deewana - this January release - once again stars all three Deols, Sunny, Bobby and dad Dharmendra. Grinning widely over the positive response to the promos and music of the film, Sunny Deol shares his dreams and desires.

For the first time we see the Deols out in full strength to promote a film. Why this sudden change ?
I have realized that promotions play an important part in the success of a film.  I have been watching the market and have seen that stars like Aamir, Shah Rukh, Salman, everybody is doing it. Last year I went through a low phase. I had back problems too, but I am back now.  I don't want to commit the same mistakes I did with my banner earlier.

But haven't you always believed that good entertainment is what always sells ?
Yes, I did try the old and tested method. We Deols are emotional people, we don't know how to handle our finances properly and this usually lands us in trouble. Since I was always a sportsman I have always done things on instinct. But I want to change all that.
When we started promoting this film we got a lot of feedback from people. But let me tell you it has also increased the pressure. I want my fans to watch the movie and give me the same kind of response that they've given the promos.
Our film industry has become so noisy that if you whisper no one hears you. You have to shout. And when you have a good product, why not reach out and tell everyone about it? You have to hammer it down and tell people again and again to see the film.
That's the way the marketing and publicity machinery works today. So we will go on every channel, every reality show, every paper and magazine and talk about our film.
What I can't do is to sell myself through gimmicks and controversies. I express myself through the characters in my movies and that is more than enough for me. I know times have changed and it is important to package yourself. But I still firmly believe that good entertainment will always sell.

The three of you appeared in Apne too. How different is it this time?
People will see Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby unlike what they have heard or seen of us. The dynamics of our relationship is different from how it is in real life which will be a novelty factor.
Apne was an emotional movie whereas Yamla Pagla is an out-and-out comedy which I have not done before. Dad has done many comedy films like Chupke Chupke. Bobby too, has done it. I was attempting something new for the first time.
I was apprehensive but then both Bobby's and dad's confidence put me at ease on the sets. They are natural at it. From the business point of view this film is important for us. Our expectations have increased with this film.

Were there any inhibitions working with dad on the sets?
Of course (laughs). He is my father and we respect him.

Will the audience miss your "dhai kilo ka haath" this time?
This film is an out-and-out entertainer and I have worked hard to change my image in this film. The audience who has always seen me as the angry young man will be in for a surprise – there is no "dhai kilo ka haath" in this film. Like dad recently said, we have seen dark comedies and various other forms of comedy. Our film will be a muscle comedy (he guffaws).
I play an NRI, a Canadian who comes in search of his father and brother. My parents are separated. I am brought up by my mother while Bobby is brought up by my father. They are living in Benares and are petty thieves. I find them but they pretend not to know me.

Bobby has a romantic angle with Kulraj Randhawa, what about you?
I am a married NRI; I have a 'mem' (foreigner) as my wife with two cute children. My scenes with her are funny and interesting.

How did Yamla Pagla Deewana come about?
I had an idea for a comedy with Bobby. I discussed it with Samir (Karnik) with whom I jell well, and we found the idea workable. Later we added Dad's character as well. We were anyway looking for a subject with all three of us and YPD turned out to be a good choice.
It took us a year-and-a-half to lock the final script. It was sad that when we were ready to start shooting we couldn't find a producer. After waiting a while, we started shooting and luckily Nitin Manmohan heard the subject and offered to produce it.

Are you very protective about Bobby in real life too?
I have got that image because of the characters I play. He's the youngest, he's always protected and gets away with whatever he does. He's a little mischievous by nature. But watch out for Bobby, he is going to be the surprise package of the movie.

How have you handled the lean patch in your career?
I am a fighter who keeps going. I never give up. So it hardly registers with me when I am down in life. I just pick myself up, keep moving and working my way towards my goals. That is my nature. When I feel something isn't working, I say, forget it, don't waste your energy, and just move on.

What about your directorial venture The Man? Has it been shelved?
No, it's not been shelved. There's a little portion to be shot. I plan to complete it. I fell ill and the film got stuck.  I put all my energies into Yamla Pagla Deewana and was completely concentrating on it but I want to finish The Man very soon.

Are you happy being an actor, or are you burdened by having to entertain the audience?
I chose to be an actor and will always choose to do so. You get to live and relive different characters through various roles. I think an actor is the only man who is blessed by fans around him.
A lawyer or a doctor doesn't get such blessings. I am proud of this profession and will cherish it if I can be here again and again.

Heard your son is turning to acting soon?
Both my sons want to take up acting. The elder one (Rocky Deol) is 20 and will soon be making his debut. He's right now training himself. He's doing an acting course, he's joined Rahul's (Rawail) acting school.
It is the first Indian branch of the world-famous Stella Adler Studio Of Acting. I am very impressed with it and I think the institute will help many newcomers too. Rahul is a director I have worked with and I trust him a lot. I want my son to learn things on his own.
I've always believed that a wealth of knowledge comes from experience. The desire to act should be within him. I was given the freedom to choose my profession and I came up the hard way. My second son is still studying, so right now I cannot comment on him.

Any ambitions to fulfill? What's next?
I still feel there is so much more to be done, so many more films, more roles. My dream is to make a film which is so good technically and creatively, so great in the story and acting departments that Hollywood comes down and salutes our industry. That's my ambition!

Yamla Pagla Deewana – cette sortie du mois de janvier – a à nouveau pour vedettes les 3 Deols : Sunny, Bobby et le père Dharmendra. Avec un large sourire suite à la réponse positive qu'ont reçu les promos et la musique du film, Sunny Deol partage ses rêves et désirs.

C'est la première fois que nous voyons les Deols mettre toutes leurs forces dans la promotion d'un film. Pourquoi ce soudain changement ?
J'ai réalisé que la promotion joue une part importante dans le succès d'un film. J'ai regardé le marché et j'ai vu que des stars comme Aamir, Shahrukh, Salman, tout le monde le fait. L'année dernière, j'ai traversé une période difficile.  J'avais des problèmes de dos aussi mais je suis de retour maintenant. Je ne veux pas commettre les mêmes erreurs que j'ai faites avec ma bannière auparavant.

Mais n'avez-vous pas toujours cru qu'un bon divertissement, c'est ce qui se vend toujours ?
Oui, j'ai essayé la vieille méthode. Nous, Deol, sommes des personnes émotives. Nous ne savons pas comment gérer nos finances correctement et ceci nous met généralement dans le pétrin. Comme j'ai toujours été un sportif, j'ai toujours fait les choses en suivant mon instinct. Mais je veux changer tout ça.
Lorsque nous avons commencé à promouvoir ce film, nous avons eu beaucoup de réactions des gens. Mais laissez-moi vous dire que cela a aussi augmenté la pression. Je veux que mes fans regardent le film et me donnent le même genre de réponse qu'ils ont donné aux promos.
Notre industrie cinématographique est devenue tellement bruyante que si vous chuchotez, personne ne vous entend. Vous devez criez. Et lorsque vous avez un bon produit, pourquoi ne pas tendre la main et en parler à tout le monde ? Vous devez l'enfoncer dans la tête des gens et leur dire encore et encore de regarder le film.
C'est la manière dont le marketing et la publicité fonctionnent aujourd'hui. Donc, nous irons sur chaque chaîne, dans chaque show-réalité, chaque journal et magazine et parlerons de notre film.
Ce que je ne sais pas faire, c'est me vendre par le biais de combines et de controverses.
Je m'exprime à travers les personnages dans mes films et c'est plus que suffisant pour moi. Je sais que les temps ont changé et c'est important de se vendre. Mais je suis toujours convaincu qu'un bon divertissement se vendra toujours.

Vous êtes apparus aussi tous les trois dans Apne. En quoi est-ce différent cette fois ?
Les gens verront Dharmendra, Sunny et Bobby comme ils ne les ont jamais vus ou entendus avant.
La dynamique de notre relation est différente de ce qu'elle est dans la vraie vie, ce qui sera un facteur nouveau.
Apne était un film émotionnel tandis que Yamla Pagla Deewana est une pure comédie, ce que je n'ai pas fait auparavant. Papa a fait beaucoup de comédies telles que Chupke Chupke. Bobby en a fait aussi. Je m'essayais à quelque chose de nouveau pour la première fois.
J'avais une appréhension mais aussi bien la confiance de Bobby que celle de papa m'ont mis à l'aise sur le plateau. C'est quelque chose de naturel chez eux. Du point de vue commercial, ce film est important pour nous. Nos attentes ont augmenté avec ce film.

Est-ce que votre "dhai kilo ka haath" (un des dialogues cultes de Damini où Sunny dit "Quand ce bras de 5 livres tombe sur quelqu'un, il ne se réveille pas") manquera au public cette fois ?
Ce film est un pur divertissement et j'ai travaillé dur pour changer mon image dans ce film. Le public qui m'a toujours vu comme le jeune homme en colère aura une surprise – il n'y a pas de "dhai kilo ka haath" dans ce film. Comme papa l'a dit récemment, nous avons vu des comédies noires et diverses autres formes de comédies. Notre film sera une comédie musclée.
Je joue le rôle d'un non-résident indien, un canadien qui va à la recherche de son père et de son frère. Mes parents sont séparés. Je suis élevé par ma mère tandis que Bobby est élevé par mon père. Ils vivent à Bénarès et sont de petits voleurs. Je les trouve mais ils font semblant de ne pas me connaître.

Bobby a un angle romantique avec Kulraj Randhawa, qu'en est-il de vous ?
Je suis un non-résident indien marié; j'ai une étrangère pour femme et deux enfants très mignons. Mes scènes avec elle sont amusantes et intéressantes.

Comment Yamla Pagla Deewana vous est-il venu à l'idée ?
J'avais une idée pour une comédie avec Bobby. J'en ai discuté avec Samir Karnik avec qui je m'entends bien et nous avons trouvé l'idée réalisable. Plus tard, nous avons ajouté le personnage de papa aussi. Nous cherchions de toute façon un sujet pour nous trois et Yamla Pagla Deewana s'est avéré être un bon choix. Ça nous a pris un an et demi pour boucler le script final. Il était regrettable qu'au moment où nous étions prêts à commencer le tournage, nous n'arrivions pas à trouver un producteur. Après avoir attendu un moment, nous avons commencé à tourner et, heureusement, Nitin Manmohan a entendu le sujet et a offert de le produire.

Etes-vous très protecteur envers Bobby dans la vraie vie aussi ?
J'ai cette image à cause des personnages que je joue. C'est le plus jeune; il est toujours protégé et s'en tire avec tout ce qu'il fait. Il est un peu espiègle par nature. Mais attention à Bobby, il va être la pochette surprise du film.

Comment avez-vous géré la période plus faible de votre carrière ?
Je suis un battant qui tient le coup. Je n'abandonne jamais. Aussi, je le montre à peine quand je suis déprimé dans la vie. Je me relève simplement, je continue d'avancer et de travailler pour atteindre mes objectifs. C'est ma nature. Quand je sens que quelque chose ne va pas, je dis oublie, ne gaspille pas ton énergie et passe à autre chose.

Qu'advient-il de votre projet de réalisation "The Man" ? A-t-il été mis de côté ?
Non, il n'a pas été mis de côté. Il reste une petite partie à tourner. J'ai l'intention de le terminer. Je suis tombé malade et le film a été bloqué. J'ai mis toute mon énergie dans Yamla Pagla Deewana et je me suis complètement concentré là-dessus mais je veux terminer "The Man" bientôt.

Etes-vous heureux d'être un acteur ou bien est-ce un fardeau de devoir divertir le public ?
J'ai choisi d'être un acteur et je choisirai toujours de l'être. Vous arrivez à vivre et revivre des personnages différents à travers des rôles différents. Je pense qu'un acteur est le seul homme qui est béni par les fans autour de lui. Un avocat ou un médecin ne reçoit pas de telles bénédictions. Je suis fier de cette profession et je la chérirai si je peux être ici encore et encore.

J'ai entendu que votre fils allait devenir acteur bientôt ?
Mes deux fils veulent devenir acteur. L'aîné (Rocky Deol) a 20 ans et fera bientôt ses débuts. Il est en formation pour l'instant. Il suit un cours d'art dramatique. Il a rejoint l'école d'art dramatique de Rahul Rawail. C'est la première branche indienne de la célèbre école "Stella Adler Studio of Acting". Je suis très impressionné et je pense que l'institut aidera beaucoup de nouveaux venus aussi. Rahul est un réalisateur avec qui j'ai travaillé et je lui fais confiance. Je veux que mon fils apprenne des choses par lui-même. J'ai toujours cru que la richesse de la connaissance venait de l'expérience. Le désir de jouer doit être en lui. Mon deuxième fils est encore aux études, donc je ne peux pas en parler tout de suite.

Des ambitions à satisfaire ? Qu'y-a-t-il ensuite ?
J'ai toujours l'impression qu'il y a tellement plus à faire, tellement plus de films, plus de rôles. Mon rêve est de faire un film qui soit si bon techniquement et du point de vue créatif, si grand dans l'histoire qu'Hollywood descende et salue notre industrie. C'est mon ambition !

REAL LIFE EQUATION WITH DAD LED TO ONSCREEN COMFORT : BOBBY

Actor Bobby Deol says his on-screen chemistry with father Dharmendra in their upcoming movie 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' has come out well because of the relationship the two share in real life.
"Since I am the youngest in the family... I fool around with Papa. But, I don't behave stupidly. In the film, it is because of him, that our chemistry is amazing," Bobby told PTI.

In the film, he said they play the characters of thugs. "Even though they are father and son, they are friends. They do everything together and can talk anything under the sun," he added.

Bobby who celebrates his 44th birthday next month, said doing comedy was not an easy task.
"I have not done comedies much. However, the situations in this film were great. It is an entertainer which will take the audience back to the Manmohan Desai lost-and-found genre," he added.

Speaking about elder brother Sunny, he said even 'Bhaiyya' has not done comedies.
"He is the toughest guy in the film industry. Here, he is a tough guy put in a comical situation. Comedy in 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' is situational and I am confident that audiences would react positively to the film," he added.

The actor said he had put his heart and soul in the film and is extremely excited and anxious as the D-Day nears for the release on January 14.
"The positive feedback over the promos is making us feel that we have a good product in hand," he said.
"We have never promoted our movies in such a big way. Hope we don't fall short," he said.

Apart from 'Yamla Pagla Deewana', Bobby is currently shooting for Anees Bazmee's 'Thank You' with Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor and Abbas Mustan's 'Players' with Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

He said he has no qualms of working in multi-starrers. "It is the trend of today," he added.

Bobby said he is optimistic that 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' would bring good days again for the Deols. "My brother treats me as his son. We share a close bond. He wishes the best for me and I do the same for him," he added.

Bobby dit que son alchimie à l'écran avec son père Dharmendra dans leur prochain film "Yamla Pagla Deewana" est très bonne grâce à la relation qu'ils partagent tous les deux dans la vraie vie.

Dans le film, il dit qu'ils jouent des rôles de voyous. "Même s'ils sont père et fils, ils sont amis. Ils font tout ensemble et peuvent parler de tout et de rien".

Bobby qui fêtera ses 44 ans le mois prochain dit que faire de la comédie n'est pas une tâche facile.
"Je n'ai pas fait beaucoup de comédies. Cependant, les situations dans ce film étaient formidables. C'est un divertissement qui rappellera au public le genre de Manmohan Desai".

En parlant de son frère aîné Sunny, il dit : même "Bhaiyya" n'a pas fait de comédies.
"C'est le gars le plus dur dans l'industrie cinématographique. Ici, c'est un dur à cuire qui se retrouve dans une situation comique. La comédie dans "Yamla Pagla Deewana" est situationnelle et j'ai bon espoir que le public réagira positivement au film".

L'acteur dit qu'il s'est donné corps et âme pour le film et qu'il est très excité et anxieux étant donné que le Jour J approche pour la sortie le 14 janvier.
"Les réactions positives aux promos nous font sentir que nous avons un bon produit en main" a-t-il dit. "Nous n'avons jamais promu nos films de manière aussi forte. J'espère que nous répondrons aux attentes" a-t-il dit.

En dehors de "Yamla Pagla Deewana", Bobby tourne actuellement "Thank You" d'Anees Bazmee avec Akshay Kumar et Sonam Kapoor et "Players" d'Abbas-Mustan avec Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu et Neil Nitin Mukesh.

"I IMAGINED THAT I WAS ADDRESSING MY SON DHARAM"

Bobby Deol admits that he had the shivers when told that he would have to replicate the iconic scene from Sholay in which a drunk Veeru totters on top of a water tank, threatening to commit suicide unless Basanti's mausi (aunt) agrees to their match. "God dude, I can't do it!" he exclaimed. But director Sameer Karnik was firm, he had to do it.

"On the day of the shoot, Film City was unusually crowded with visitors. And when I looked down from the top of the tank, I saw a sea of faces looking up at me. It made me all the more nervous," Bobby reminisces.

The scene had a twist to it, with brother Sunny watching the drama from below and pointing out to the 21st century Veeru that such idle threats would not get him the girl today. "We weren't attempting a spoof but when I saw the scene later on the editing table, I found it quite funny," admits the actor. Wonder if he'd agree to act in a remake of Sholay and Bobby says, "Sholay is a milestone, it would be difficult to recreate the magic of Mr Bachchan (Amitabh Bachchan) and dad's (Dharmendra) jodi (pair). That's why we insisted on dad going solo on KBC because we knew that when Jai and Veeru reunited after 35 years, their fans wouldn't want anyone else."

However, he agrees that with a really good script, Sholay could be reloaded: "Four years before Sholay in 1971, dad had acted in a film called Mera Gaon Mera Desh in which a reformed criminal helps a one-armed man save a village from dacoits. It celebrated a golden jubilee and inspired Sholay, which was one of the biggest grossers ever, with Vinod Khanna's Jabbar Singh turning into Amjad Khan's Gabbar Singh."

Yamla Pagla Deewana threw up another challenge for the Deol when he was called upon to address his father as kaminey (scoundrel), since on screen they share a buddy-budddy relationship. "When alone with a friend, it's not unusual to fondly call him kaminey, but this was dad whom I'd grown up in awe of. I finally got myself to do what was required by imagining that I was addressing my son, Dharam," he smiles, adding that he'd wanted to name his first-born Dharam but was dissuaded by family members. "But by the time my second son came along, I was determined and no one could stop me. Unfortunately, Dharam junior is a real badmaash (notorious)."

Bobby had a blast shooting with his dad. "After a long time, I really enjoyed shooting for a film. All fathers want to be friends with their sons and vice versa but in real life, there are certain lakshmanrekhas (lines) that we can't cross," he muses. "But as our parents grow older, they lean on us more, become mellow and easy to talk to. That's how it is with dad and me today."

Bobby says that they have a sequel for Yamla Pagla Deewana in mind depending on the response to the film. "Bhaiya (brother Sunny) has always thought ahead of time. He experimented with sync sound in Dillagi before it became fashionable. He also wanted to make a Ghayal 2 at a time when the concept of sequels hadn't caught on. Let's see," he shrugs.

Bobby has two more releases coming up this year, Thank You with Akshay Kumar, Irrfan Khan, Suneil Shetty and Sonam Kapoor, and Players with Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonam again, which is the official remake of 1969 hit The Italian Job, being directed by Abbas-Mustan. Bobby refuses to divulge which character he's playing. All he's willing to say is that his favourite actor from the Hollywood hit is Michael Caine who played the dapper mobster, Charlie Croker. So, is he Charlie? He chuckles, "Wait and watch."

Bobby Deol admet qu'il a frissonné lorsqu'on lui a dit qu'il devrait reproduire la scène emblématique de Sholay dans laquelle un Veeru ivre titube au sommet d'un château d'eau, menaçant de se suicider à moins que la tante de Basanti n'accepte leur union. "Mon Dieu, je ne peux pas le faire !" s'est-il exclamé. Mais le réalisateur Samir Karnik était ferme; il devait le faire.

"Le jour du tournage, Film City était exceptionnellement bondé de visiteurs. Et lorsque je regardais en bas, du haut du réservoir, je voyais une multitude de visages qui me regardaient. Cela m'a rendu on ne peut plus nerveux" se rappelle Bobby.

La scène prenait une nouvelle tournure avec mon frère Sunny qui regardait le drame d'en-bas en faisant remarquer au Veeru du 21ème Siècle que ce n'est pas avec de telles menaces en l'air qu'il obtiendrait la fille aujourd'hui. "Nous ne tentions pas de faire une parodie mais lorsque j'ai vu la scène plus tard sur la table de montage, je l'ai trouvée plutôt amusante." Lorsqu'on lui demande s'il accepterait de jouer dans un remake de Sholay, Bobby dit : "Sholay est un évènement marquant; il serait difficile de recréer la magie du duo Amitabh Bachchan/papa. C'est pourquoi nous avons insisté pour que papa aille seul sur KBC parce que nous savions que lorsque Jai et Veeru seraient réunis après 35 ans, leurs fans ne voudraient personne d'autre.

Cependant, il admet qu'avec un script vraiment bon, Sholay pourrait être refait. "Quatre ans avant Sholay, en 1971, mon père avait joué dans un film intitulé Mera Gaon Mera Desh dans lequel un criminel réformé aide un homme à sauver un village des mains des dacoïts. Il a inspiré Sholay qui a été un des plus gros hits, avec le Jabbar Singh de Vinod Khanna devenant le Gabbar Singh d'Amjad Khan.".

Yamla Pagla Deewana lançait un autre défi à Bobby lorsqu'on l'a prié d'appeler son père "vaurien" puisqu'à l'écran, ils partagent une relation de camaraderie. "Quand on est seul avec un ami, il n'est pas inhabituel de l'appeler affectueusement "vaurien" mais il s'agissait de mon père par qui j'étais intimidé en grandissant. Je suis finalement arrivé à faire ce qui était demandé en imaginant que je m'adressais à mon fils Dharam" il sourit en ajoutant qu'il avait voulu appeler son premier fils Dharam mais que les membres de sa famille l'en avaient dissuadé. "Mais lorsque mon 2ème fils est venu au monde, j'étais déterminé et personne n'a pu m'arrêter. Malheureusement, Dharam junior est un véritable voyou".

Bobby s'est amusé en tournant avec son père. "Après une longue période, j'ai vraiment apprécié de tourner un film. Tous les pères veulent être amis avec leurs fils et vice versa mais dans la vraie vie, il y a certaines barrières qu'on ne peut pas franchir. Mais quand nos parents vieillissent, ils s'appuient plus sur nous, ils s'adoucissent et c'est plus facile de discuter avec eux. C'est comme ça que ça se passe entre papa et moi aujourd'hui."

Bobby dit qu'ils ont une suite en tête pour Yamla Pagla Deewana mais cela dépendra de la réponse qui sera donnée au film. "Mon frère Sunny a toujours pensé avant l'heure. Il a expérimenté avec un son bien synchronisé dans Dillagi avant que cela devienne à la mode. Il voulait aussi faire un Gayal 2 à une époque où le concept des suites n'était pas populaire." Voyons ce qui va se passer, dit-il en haussant les épaules.

Bobby a deux autres sorties cette année, "Thank You" avec Akshay Kumar, Irrfan Khan, Suniel Shetty et Sonam Kapoor, et "Players" avec Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh et à nouveau Sonam, qui est le remake officiel du hit "The Italian Job" de 1969 et réalisé par Abbas-Mustan. Un évènement que j'avais oublié de mettre dans les promotions

7 janvier 2011 - Les Deols qui assurent la promotion de YPD à Delhi participent au lancement du "World Forum for Punjabi Parliamentarians" et Dharmendra reçoit le "Punjabi Rattan Award"

  Rumeurs ? Probablement mais voici ce que l'on peut lire dans la presse aujourd'hui...

David Dhawan va réaliser un remake de la célèbre comédie de 1975 "Chupke Chupke" qui avait pour vedettes Dharmendra et Amitabh Bachchan.
Le casting doit encore être finalisé mais, d'après les bruits qui courent, Abhishek Bachchan et Bobby Deol seraient envisagés pour jouer les rôles principaux.
Le film serait produit par Sohail Maklai et Vishvaas Paandya de White Stripes.
Big B pourrait également rejoindre le casting...

Affaire à suivre une fois que le script, sur lequel travaille Rumy Jaffrey, sera finalisé...

Hrishikesh Mukherji's timeless classic will be remade and sons of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, who starred in the original, may act in it.
It truly is the season of remakes. And Hrishikesh Mukherji's classic Chupke Chupke tops the list. David Dhawan will direct the remake and Sohail Maklai will jointly produce it with Vishvaas Paandya of White Stripes.
That's not all. Grapevine has it that the remake will have in the lead the star sons of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, who were part of the original. Abhishek Bachchan and Bobby Deol will star in the remake.
And guess what? Amitabh Bachchan is likely to star in the remake as well. Our source said, "Paandya had the rights of the film for some time. Now, he has joined hands with Sohail Maklai in making this film.
Maklai has roped in writer Rumy Jaffrey, who is currently finalising the script while casting is under way.
The wish list is to have these actors on board. It is a classic film and most filmmakers would dare not go on that path but enough measures are being taken to make a unique film yet again."
When contacted, David Dhawan said, "Yes, the film has been offered to me and I am considering it."
On the other hand, Sohail Maklai said, "Yes we are remaking the film along with White Stripes. Rumy Jaffrey is writing it and David Dhawan will direct it. However, no one in the cast has been finalised and we will approach them once the script is ready."

Bientôt une autobiographie de Dharmendra...

Après ses 50 années passées dans l'industrie, Dharmendra a décidé d'écrire sa biographie, lui-même, afin de préserver la vérité et de garder l'âme de son histoire intacte. Il dit : "Je ne veux pas l'écrire pour le plaisir de le faire. L'histoire doit pouvoir toucher le cœur des gens." Cette autobiographie rassemblera ses souvenirs depuis l'âge de 2 ans et contiendra des photos rares, de la poésie et des anecdotes.
Dharmendra dit que ce travail lui prendra un peu plus d'une année. En effet, il ne peut pas se concentrer uniquement sur ce livre car il a bien l'intention de faire d'autres films.
Cette autobiographie sera disponible en anglais, hindi, ourdou, punjabi, marathi et d'autres langues encore.
